This oval (or pea-shaped) bean is known as Peaberry. Around 5-8% of all coffee beans harvested are peaberries.
Peaberries have a reputation to roast and taste better than flat berries. Their round shape is one reason given for roasting more efficiently and having better flavor, but this effect has only minor influence, if any, on the final cup results. What contributes most to the quality of peaberries is that they have been carefully selected, which is essential for optimal quality regardless of bean shape.
